The Sketches

In this album, I present a series of sketches I created between 1979 and 2022. They concern building studies and entries in national and international competitions held over those 43 years, mainly produced in our office in collaboration with D. Isaïas, as well as with other architects. Many of these projects were fortunate enough to be built, while others remained unrealized. […]

…The preliminary sketches of a building are something quite different from the building itself, which—once in space—expresses the crystallization of the idea. The sketches convey the uncertainty that grips the architect (and every artist, I believe) during the process of composing a work: the thoughts and variations recorded on paper as they work, as if each one is born from the previous. All those countless “maybes,” containing alternative solutions that appear—almost magically—in the mind during the course of a study.
